Vision
It starts here - humbly, modestly, and serendipitously.
Once a novice backyard gardener and now a Master Gardener.
Once a water bath canner and now a pressure canner.
Once an amateur cook and now setting a clock to the sourdough starter.
Once a city mouse in Nashville and now a country mouse in Rock Island.
It's all been a journey as way has led onto way.
For now, canned goods to Farmers Storehouse and sourdough loaves to Newt's.
But more conversations and more ideas in the works.
Come now, stay for the process.
Know that there is a vision.
01
Bread and Butter Pickles
Spotting Gourmet Dill Pickles at Farmers Storehouse, we wondered if there was a need for other canned goods - even making use of existing produce? Cristina? She encouraged me to bring to John. He took one bite and was sold affirming,
"Yes, yes!"
Bring it on.
02
Cowboy Candy
Upon mentioning Cowboy Candy at Farmers Storehouse, there were looks of confusion. But Rafael then perked up, "YES! My wife just made some, and I LOVE it!" So a batch of that came with the Bread and Butter pickles. Keep in mind - these only get better the longer they sit!
03
Sourdough Loaves
and Banneton Covers
What's next: a love of sourdough and sewing as fall and winter are coming. As the garden slows, more indoor craft projects (while finding more recipes for sourdough starter!). Banneton covers? Bowl covers? Table runners? Placemats? Cristina has visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads!

Next Year's Garden
When we moved into this house, we identified exactly where the greenhouse and garden would go. The detached garage would become a cannery and bakery. The area south of it would be leveled and graveled for a greenhouse and garden. A greenhouse means EARLIER and LONGER vegetables. A larger garden means more canned goods for 2025!
